The bottom bottom line is that Dropbox is just so super simple. Install. Drag and drop. I keep all of my business correspondence templates and invoices in Dropbox so that no matter where I am, no matter which machine I'm using, no matter what time it is: the files are always there and sync'd. Its just so GD simple and quick.

I was googling around trying to find out if I should replace dropbox with live mesh. I put alot of files through onenote and i end up with conflicting copies, I was hoping live mesh would resolve this issue, but finding that there is not revision, no backup, I will happily stay with dropbox.

Well, with a teensy bit of a hack you can get multiple folders with dropbox too.

Assume you want to have a folder "pictures" on your desktop to be synchronised with DB. You place the folder inside the dropbox folder, and put a shortcut to it on the desktop. Double clicking opens the pictures folder in dropbox. Drag and dropping files onto the shortcut sends them to the pictured folder inside dropbox. Etcetera.

"it’s synchronized with a central server"

Yes, that's the nature and the problem with Dropbox. It appears you have to upload everything you want to sync to its central server. While mesh has the flexibility to avoid to do this. Most people do not want to upload their 20+G music library to the "cloud".

Another good thing with mesh is it can sycn any folder on your computer, i.e. you don't have to put it in a single "dropbox". This way you can sync something like IE favourites, messenger settings etc.

I've evaluated Live Mesh and DropBox and I came with the same conclusion.

There is another advantage of DropBox over Live Mesh, it's the memory usage of the Windows clients. Live Mesh uses a background process (MOE.exe) which consumes a lot of memory... I can't remember how much exactly but it was not negligible!

BTW, here is an interesting post from the Live Mesh team: http://blogs.msdn.com/livemesh/archive/2008/05/09/behind-live-mesh-what-is-moe.aspx
