A good article. I have had to learn many of the lessons you have written about over the last year and wish I had read this before I started, I've spent lots on time and money removing stuff from my websites!

I have also just teamed up with a non-technical organisation in my target industry who already have the human relationships with my potential customers and given them a version of my booking website for a nominal charge (http://www.fofato.skillbook.co.uk).

We only launched their version 2 weeks ago but it has had a significant positive impact - you just can't beat human contact.

Good luck with whatever you are working on now!

You nailed it on the head. Too many people get hung up on either finding or creating the perfect product to sell but have no access to an interested audience. A wiser choice is to find a passionate audience, build relationships, figure out their unmet needs, and fill them in a unique way.

While the internet is all about technology, human relationships still form the backbone of the most successful companies online just as they do offline.
